Hello, I currently have a work visa for 5 years but I got married to a Japanese national for 2 years. So I want to think about permanent residency. 1) In order to get PR, do I need to switch to spousal visa and wait another 3 years? 2) Or can I apply with the current work visa after my marriage has 3 years? 3) Also, would the fact that I forgot to notify immigration of my job changes prevent me from obtaining permanent residency? Thank you!

Your best bet would be to contact immigration on how to apply for the status change. You don't need to tell them all of your own personal details, just ask and see what they think should be done.

I have no knowledge/experience with HSP system, which was mentioned by another poster earlier. So excluding that:
1) As far as I know, it would probably be faster if you change to gspouse of Japanese national g status. I donft know how long your current employer-sponsored status of residence (SOR) is, but when the time to extend your work SOR approaches, instead you can make an application for gchange of resident statush to gspouse of Japanese national.h If at that time, you receive a 3-year or 5-year SOR as gspouse,h and if at that time you have already been married for 3 years and in Japan for 1 year (I believe), you will fulfill the conditions to apply for PR.
2) On work SOR, youfd need to have been Japan for 10 years to be eligible to apply for PR.
3) Not really. If you reported it a little late (later than 2 weeks) or something, Ifd say it is a minor error, though it was a violation of the rules. But you reported the change in the end, I hope?
